A Legend Steps Down

This is primarily a basketball blog, but this was I post that I feel just needed to be written. Today, Derek Jeter posted on his Facebook page that he will retire after this upcoming season. After hearing that news, I felt the compulsion to write this:

I've been fortunate to grow up as a Yankee fan, where Derek Jeter has been on the team since before I was born. Derek has been my favorite player since I've known how to say his name, with that being said; I think that he has spoiled me as a fan. I get really disappointed when I hear about a player taking steroids, getting arrested, impregnating a stripper [looking at you, Paul George] or anything else along those lines, as any person should be. However, many of today's athletes do such things so some people are pretty good at forgetting it because it's now common. But there's always been one athlete that can be counted on to be a moral, good person, and that's Derek Jeter. Jeter is an ideal role model on the field, in the dugout, and off the field in general. He's been a phenomenal leader and a real class-act for as long as he's been in the MLB and he's no slouch on the field either. He has 3,316 career hits [2nd most for a SS], a .312 career batting average, leads NYY in all time games played and stolen bases, he has the most hits, runs, and doubles in post-season history and hits .308 in the post-season. There will never be another like Jeter, the longest tenured captain in Yankee history. People will always be searching for the next Jeter but eventually the search will prove unsuccessful. Good luck finding anyone who combines hitting, base-running, plate-hogging, clutch-ness, determination, and leadership as well as "Captain Clutch" does. If I had to sum up Jeter's career in one play, it would probably be either this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seC63AEk4-8 or this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCUMXpU6N3k
. I wish Jeter the best of luck in his final season.
